Regione Emilia-Romagna: ASC Software for the Regional Archive Centre (PARER)

January 29, 2009

Regione Emilia-Romagna is about to launch its PARER (Regional Archive Centre) project for the filing and storage, authentication and regulation-compliant replacement of digital documents. The operative management of the system will be the responsibility of the Institute of Cultural Heritage (IBC) using the ASC (Archive Service Centre) programme devised by Unimatica as part of its Docarea project. The system is produced in compliance with CNIPA regulations and implements the regulations established by the Archive Heritage Super Intendancy for metadata and waste procedures. The application allows verification of the authenticity of digital documents and guarantees the integrity of files over time, pursuant to applicable Italian regulations. The programme, created by Unimatica S.p.A. according to the initial requisites and specifications of Docarea and Docarea+, is currently being expanded and supplemented to satisfy the new requirements of Regione Emilia-Romagna. ASC is based on UNISTORAGE components already used in many premium organisations and authorities in Italy. The components used by UNISTORAGE for ASC are those for the digital signature via web application, the archiving, long-term, regulation-compliant conservation of digital documents, web-based research and viewing of the documents and their digital evidences of authenticity and finally the management of any external storage media (optic, magnetic devices, etc.). The “full Internet” and “web-based” architecture is scalable over three separate processing levels (presentation, application and data) and uses web-service for interfacing archive management procedures in progress. The ASC solution devised by Unimatica will soon be installed in the primary and secondary (disaster recovery) Data Centre chosen by Regione Emilia-Romagna through a dedicated call for tenders.
