CINECA chooses UNIMONEY for its electronic payments and order collections

February 2, 2011  Erika Neusch

Established in 1969 as the Consorzio Interuniversitario per il Calcolo Automatico dell'Italia Nord Orientale, CINECA is now the most important calculation centre in Italy and one of the most important worldwide. With over three hundred and fifty employees, it operates in the technological transfer sector, providing high-level scientific calculation, telematic network and service management and development and structured, complex massive data handling system building services. CINECA has started utilising the UNIMONEY service, used by Cassa di Risparmio di Bologna and the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, to manage computerised payment orders (payment and collection orders) with digital signatures in its dealings with its treasury bank. The system, which works in ASP (Application Service Provisioning) outsourcing mode, allows the bank and authority to manage telematic transactions only, sending and receiving legally valid digital files. CINECA’s administrative staff use a simple browser paired with typical digital signature devices (smart card plus reader and USB token). The system, which is already connected to CINECA’s administrative procedures, allows a significant streamlining of in-house administrative procedures and considerable cost-saving for the administration. The service allows the Consortium to obtain a complete, effective digital conversion of this kind of administrative document, which is particularly costly, not merely for public administration but also its treasury bank BTB.  Regulation-compliant order archiving and storage (payment and collection orders, bills and receipts, etc.) is performed using Unimatica's UNISTORAGE system.
